Garden Super Hero

For all of you who continually battle slugs and snails there is hope (on the West Coast anyway). The slim, trim Snail-Killer Carabid (Scaphinotus angusticollis) is especially adapted to get right in snail shells to dispatch the snail and it also eats banana slugs. Quite a nice looking beetle with it’s reddish coloured stream lined body.

Return of the Vandal

Well, after destroying our gunnera, the buck was back yesterday attacking our bay laurel bush.  It was actually charging the tree and ripping branches off.  I had to escort him off the property.

Giant Hogweed – Reprise

I did a post sometime back on Giant Hogweed but found these last night when doing my old negative scans. Not a popular plant around here but still quite spectacular. I was actually standing under the plant and shooting upwards to take these photos.
