When we bought our property 47 years ago we found this large old growth Douglas Fir – approximately 900 years old. It measured 25 feet around at the base and at the time the top had broken off at about 130 feet.
Over the past two years two sections have broken off the top and the tree now measures 122 feet. There is still a lot of damage at the very top but the tree is basically sound. The circumference at the top of the tree is larger than the bases of most of our trees that have been growing since the area was logged in the late 1800’s.
