• We finally have some rain tonight but more cold weather on the way. Yes, the area was a damp spot in the forest so I dug it out a bit. It is a vernal pond that will disappear by late Spring but it is a pleasant spot the rest of the time. Frogs, salamanders and various creepy crawlers use it for breeding purposes in the Spring.

      • Eric has taken a similar spot in our yard down south and done the same, but on a smaller scale. We’re not sure yet, but think that the little spring that he was diverting may keep the tiny pond in water year round. What fun to have such a diversity of critters.
