Halloween Cactus

Our Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera or Zygocactus) seems to have the season rushed though it isn’t too unusual for this plant. At the beginning of Summer we put the cactus outside, behind the house, and completely ignore it. By the time it comes inside in early Fall it is so thankful for attention that it rewards us with these beautiful flowers.

    • They are a hardy plant and seem to like being neglected somewhat. Ours is in a south-east facing window, gets water when we remember and doesn’t mind being root bound. I think the real secret is putting it out in the Summer. Ours was behind the house and in the shade and only got watered when it rained which wasn’t much this Summer. Within a few weeks of coming back into the house it always blooms.
